Destinations in France

Normandy - The Bayeux Tapestry - Mont Saint-Michel - The D-Day beaches - Arromanches Landings Museum - Bayeux British Cemetery - Graindorge Cheese Factory - Les Co-Pains Bakery - Chocolate Museum 'Drakkar' - La Cité de la Mer

Normandy has lots to offer for students from a variety of subject areas, with activities such as visiting a chocolate museum, learning the story of William the Conqueror through the Bayeux Tapestry, marvelling at the view of Mont Saint-Michel, and reflecting on the history of Omaha beach.

There are also several war museums, memorials, and burial grounds to visit, enriching students' knowledge of this historic city's past.

Of course, a trip to Normandy wouldn't be complete without taking the opportunity to enjoy some local tasty treats. A chance to sample cheese, chocolate, caramel or even escargot can be arranged should you wish to immerse your students in the traditional cuisine!

What they will learn

Subjects available: History, Languages, Cultural, Hospitality and Catering

With a trip to Normandy, students studying a history of warfare will gain a great insight into the impressive development of weaponry, tactics and technology during World War Two, not to mention seeing first-hand the locations of the D-Day landings.

A visit to the Bayeux Tapestry will also bring the history of the Norman Conquest to life for your students.

Be sure to spend some time enjoying the local cuisine whilst in Normandy as well, especially if your group is on a food technology trip. Students will be able to visit a snail farm, where they can try this local delicacy, as well as a traditional French bakery, where they can gain hands-on experience of making French bread!

Of course, for French students, Normandy is a great location for them to soak up real-life French culture and it offers an opportunity to practise their linguistic skills when conversing with the locals.
